Should Singles Call or Text a Date?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Times have changed and singles have so many ways to communicate with each other. Singles want to appear and so texting and emailing has become more common.

The question is should you text or email a potential date rather than call and when is it appropriate to call vs. text or email a potential date or someone you are currently dating?

Texting is overused and can be construed by women as I guy being when it comes to calling. So why do men choose texting and emailing over calling?

  1. Men Fear Rejection: Singles men text and email potential dates as an easy way to approach women that could reject them as it is easier to put in the effort of a few minutes rather than a ½ hour to hour long phone conversation and then finding that the potential date does not want to go on a date with them.
  2. Shyness/Awkwardness: Single men can be shy and afraid they will mess up in the first conversation after they get a woman’s card or contact information.
  3. Gadget Oriented: Single men love to play with gadgets so texting gives them the opportunity to play with a gadget.
  4. Succinct Communication-Some single men are really paranoid about screwing up their first approach and find an email gives them the opportunity to write out what they want to say, in hopes they get it right.
  5. Calling single women is more personal. Some men want to have control over how close they get to a woman by testing the single woman he has interest in with a text or email before putting the effort and time into a phone call.
  6. Texting is more popular with singles that are in their 20’s to early 40’s. Most singles in their 50’s and 60’s don’t text much unless they have teenage kids that they text.

So how does a single woman handle the texting, email, phone options with single men?

  1. Let the man text or email as a start. When you receive the text or email, suggest that they call you to talk about their invitation to get together or firm up plans with your home and cell phone number on the email.
  2. Pin down a time for the phone call. Ask the single man who has texted or emailed you to call you between “X and Y” time that you’ll be available to take his call.
  3. Let your potential date know that you are looking forward to talking to him. End your email back with something like it was really great meeting you too. I look forward to talking to you evening.

What if single men continue to text or email you?

1. Let single men text or email in the beginning of the dating relationship.

2. After you have dated a few times, talk to him about how texting and email is great during the business day when it is difficult to take calls and you are firming up plans but you love to talk to your friends.

3. As you date regularly, let your man know that you enjoy talking to him on the phone regularly. Say things like you “love the sound of his voice and the “personal contact of chatting”.

4. Let your date know you are on the computer and emailing a lot during the business day that you really like to have more personal contact and chat with friends.

Do you wonder if he really likes you? Here are ten ways to tell if he’s just not into you. Before you check out the list, what happens if you’re just not that into him?

He never makes plans in advance
If he really wanted to see you, do you really think he would keep calling you on Friday to make plans for Saturday?

He talks too much about an ex-girlfriend or still talks to the ex-girlfriend.
It’s okay to reminisce about a past relationship, but if it’s all he talks about, could it be he’s not over her yet? If he is talking to her, why….he is supposed to be talking to you.

He won’t talk about the future
We’re not talking about ultimatums here or putting undue pressure on the guy.
But if he refuses to discuss where things are headed, then can you really count on him to be the one?

He doesn’t plan anything for special occasions
If your birthday is coming up or Valentine’s Day and it’s not on his radar screen, do you think your happiness is top of mind for him?

He lets you do all the work
It’s okay to plan some of the dates, but if you only see each other when you make it happen, then can he really claim to be committed to the relationship? If he isn’t romancing you, it’s one sided.

He’s not clear about your status with friends and family
Does he tell you that you’re his girlfriend but say something different in front of friends and family, like we’re just close friends?

He’s overly guarded about cell phone and email messages
People who hide nothing have nothing to hide. Why would he be so protective about messages if he had nothing to hide?

He has no interest in your friends and family and won’t bring you around his friends and family. If this relationship has a future, at some point he’ll have to establish relationships with the people important in your life. If he’s not interested in meeting your friends and family, could it be he doesn’t expect to be around too long? Does he include you around his friends and family. Or does he tell you he is exclusive with you while he is still searching for someone else while hanging with friends.

He cancels on you all the time
Making plans is great but not if they’re constantly canceled by him. What could possibly come up every weekend that he cancels his plans with you to do something else.

He doesn’t plan vacations with you.
He plans all vacation time with his friends or his family and doesn’t include you. A guy that wants to be with you will plan a romantic getaway for some alone time.
